Why do succulent leaves become soft?

Why do succulent leaves become soft?

1. The leaves of the newly potted succulents become soft

This situation is normal because the new roots of the newly potted plants have not yet grown, and their ability to absorb water is poor. Succulent lovers should wait patiently for the roots to grow out. If the plant remains in this state for a long time or the leaves are severely dry, you can consider pruning the roots.

2. The pot soil is too wet, causing the succulent to become waterlogged

Succulents do not like water. An overly humid environment can cause the leaves to rot or even melt. In this case, it is necessary to promptly clean up the waterlogged leaves, cut off the heads, eliminate black rot, sterilize the waterlogged parts, and replant after drying.

3. Normal metabolism causes leaf dryness

The bottom leaves of succulents are gradually depleted of nutrients due to the metabolism of the plants and slowly become dry. This is a normal phenomenon. It is best to remove completely dry leaves in time to avoid rotting and attracting insects.

4. Leaves dry up during dormancy

When succulents are dormant, their leaves will become soft, dry, and fall off. This is normal. At this time, you should reduce watering or cut off water, pay attention to timely ventilation in summer, and maintain a certain temperature in winter.

5. Lack of water causes wrinkles on leaves

Not watering for a long time will cause the leaves to become soft and wrinkled. In this case, water needs to be replenished in time. Excessively dry soil may damage the root system. If the succulent wilts severely, it is recommended to remove the plant from the pot, check the root system and prune it appropriately.

6. Sunburn or frostbite

When the temperature is too low or the sunlight is too strong, the leaves of succulents will be damaged. At this time, according to the condition of the plant, remove the waterlogged leaves, then sterilize the plant, dry it in the sun and then replant it.
