How to grow passion fruit

How to grow passion fruit

1. Planting time

The cultivation time is usually between February and March every year. The temperature slowly begins to rise, the climate warms up, and the soil thaws. At this time, the survival rate of planting will be higher, and the later management will be convenient and worry-free.

2. Digging out seedlings

The seedlings should usually be grown to about one meter. If they are too small, the survival rate will be reduced. Be careful not to damage the root system when digging. You can plant it with a soil ball or bare-root. Note that no matter which method you use, you should plant the plants as soon as possible after digging them out to avoid dehydration.

3. Dig the planting pit

Dig a planting pit of appropriate size, the pit should be 20-30 cm high, 40 cm wide and 40 cm long. The distance between columns should be about two meters, and the distance between rows should be controlled at about three meters. About 150 seedlings should be planted per mu. Too dense a density will affect later growth and make management inconvenient.

4. Planting in the pit

After digging the planting hole, you can put the seedlings into the hole and fill it with soil carefully. Be careful to allow the roots of the seedlings to stretch out, compact the surrounding soil after filling, and water them thoroughly in time to allow the soil and seedlings to absorb enough water so that they can grow better.

5. Post-management

The branching ability of passion fruit seedlings is relatively strong, so a trellis must be erected in time in the later stage, otherwise the branches and leaves will easily climb together, which will affect ventilation. Building a trellis is not only beneficial to the growth of seedlings, but also convenient for management and harvesting of fruits in the later stage. Just use thin wooden strips and fix them with wire. In addition, it is necessary to pinch and prune in time.
