Water lily is a common ornamental flower . It grows in ponds and lakes and likes an environment with plenty of sunlight, warmth, humidity and good ventilation. Water lilies are cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as -20℃ without freezing to death. Below, the editor will introduce the wintering management of water lilies. Let’s take a look. 1. Soil management Choose a neutral soil with a pH value between 6 and 8, rich in organic matter, which is more conducive to the growth of water lilies. Replace the soil once a year to avoid loss of nutrients in the soil. Keep the soil loose and avoid soil that is too compacted to hinder the circulation of water and air. 2. Water quality management Cold-hardy water lilies can overwinter naturally in ponds, but they cannot become dehydrated throughout the winter and a certain water layer must be maintained. If potted water lilies are placed outdoors, when the lowest temperature in winter is below -8℃, they should be covered with weeds or agricultural film to prevent the tubers from freezing. They can safely overwinter if placed indoors. Keep the water clean and avoid excessive accumulation of organic matter and impurities in the water. When the water is turbid or there is an odor in the water, the water source should be replaced in time. 3. Lighting management Water lily is a light-loving plant, and sufficient sunlight is essential for its healthy growth. During the growing period of water lilies, they need about 8 hours of sunlight a day to grow vigorously. In winter, the daytime is short and the sunlight intensity is low. You can use growth lamps or fluorescent lamps to increase the duration and intensity of light for water lilies. 4. Pruning management Before the water lilies overwinter, prune away withered flowers and yellowing leaves. This not only avoids waste of plant nutrients, but also reduces the breeding of diseases and pests. At the same time, it also helps to keep the water lilies neat and beautiful. 5. Indoor management In winter, you can move the water lilies indoors and keep the temperature above 0℃ to avoid freezing. Water lilies grown indoors need to be placed in a cold cellar in winter to allow them to enter a dormant period, and then moved to an environment above 15°C after the temperature rises in spring. 6. Hiding in the sand during the winter Before wintering, dig out the rhizomes of water lilies, clean the soil, and prepare enough river sand. Bury the rhizomes in moist sand and keep the sand moist. This method can be carried out indoors in an environment above 0 degrees. The above is an introduction to the overwintering management of water lilies. Water lilies have beautiful flowers and rich colors. They are a beautiful and economically valuable aquatic plant . The temperature is relatively low in winter, so you can master the above overwintering management points.
