How to prune jasmine into a tree shape

How to prune jasmine into a tree shape

1. Topping and pinching

If you want to prune it into a tree shape, topping and pinching are necessary. The main trunk should be retained and not touched so that it can continue to grow healthily. This is a very important point, but the small branches growing on it should be removed, otherwise it will affect the shape of the tree. As the plant grows, continue to top and pinch the tips to suppress the apical dominance and do not let it grow unchecked.

2. Cut off the new shoots

Pruning new shoots is a quick and effective method. New shoots growing on the main trunk and the base of the rhizome should be removed, as well as the buds on diseased and weak branches. This will not only present the tree shape, but will also help flower buds to bloom on the branches, and improve lighting conditions, increase light transmittance between plants, and promote healthy growth of plants.

3. Pruning branches

The branches also need to be pruned to prevent them from continuing to grow. They should be shortened. For some branches that are seriously overgrown, they can be cut off immediately if found. Continuing to keep them will affect the overall shape.

4. Root pruning

Root pruning is the basic condition for forming a tree shape. It is difficult to form a tree shape without a healthy and developed root system. Cutting off the weak roots underneath will not affect the absorption function.
