Can sunflowers be propagated by cuttings?

Can sunflowers be propagated by cuttings?

Sunflower, a flower plant belonging to the Portulacaceae family, has many varieties. It is a common and beautiful flower in summer and autumn. Its main propagation methods include sowing and cutting.

Sunflower cutting propagation

Sunflowers can be propagated by cuttings, whether they are perennial sunflowers or annual sunflowers sown by seeds. This method is generally used for varieties that do not produce seeds and cannot be propagated by sowing, so cuttings can be used.

Sunflower cutting time

The time for sunflower cuttings is generally between May and August, when the temperature is stable at above 20 degrees. In addition, there is a lot of rain and high air humidity during this period, which is conducive to germination and rooting.

How to propagate sunflowers by cuttings

Choose young stems that are free of diseases and insect pests as cuttings. The length should be controlled at about 3-4 cm. The soil should also be loose, fertile, and well-permeable. Then water the potting soil until it is moist.

When inserting, you should first poke a hole in the soil surface with a wooden stick, and insert the dried branches into the soil to a depth of one centimeter. After inserting, spray water to keep the soil in the pot moist. You don’t need to water it on the first day, put it in a place with scattered light and shade, and water it on the second day. After a week, gradually expose it to light and maintain it normally.
