How many days does it take for loofah to germinate after sowing?

Luffa likes high temperature and humid environment, is resistant to heat and humidity, and the most suitable growth temperature is 18 to 24 degrees Celsius. Seeds need to germinate at a temperature above 20 degrees, and the temperature range for rapid growth is 30-35 degrees. So how many days does it usually take for loofah to germinate after sowing?

How many days does it take for loofah to germinate after sowing?

After the loofah is sown, it normally takes about 5-7 days for it to germinate. Under suitable conditions, the germination time of loofah seeds is usually within this range. However, this time may vary depending on specific environmental conditions and management methods. In order to promote the germination of loofah seeds, some measures can be taken, such as soaking the seeds to soften the seed coat and promote water absorption. Before sowing, select plump and intact seeds, soak them in warm water at about 55℃ for 6-8 hours, and then sow them, which will help speed up germination.

Sponge gourd sowing time and method

1. Seed pretreatment

Before sowing, in order to promote better germination of seeds, first dry the seeds for two days. After drying, soak the seeds in warm water at 30℃ for 12-15 hours. After soaking, gently rub the surface of the seeds with your hands, then rinse them twice with clean water to remove the gum on the seed shell.

2. Germination Steps

After the seeds are soaked, if the temperature is low, they should not be sown directly and need to be germinated first. The germination method can be selected according to the actual situation. Use a wet towel, wet cloth or other container to keep the seeds moist and control the temperature at around 25℃. During the germination period, rinse with clean water once in the morning and evening every day. Usually the seeds will turn white after 2-4 days and can be sown at this time.

3. Soil Preparation

Before sowing, the soil needs to be prepared. The seedling soil can be mixed with 7 parts of garden soil, 2 parts of fermented organic fertilizer and 1 part of wood ash or river sand. After stirring evenly, put it into the seedling tray or flower pot. After watering thoroughly, wait one day before sowing to prevent the soil from being too moist and affecting seed germination and emergence.

4. Sowing Techniques

Once the soil and seeds are ready, sow the seeds. Place 1-2 seeds in each hole and cover with about 1.5 cm thick fine soil. After sowing, cover with plastic film and prop up the film with wooden strips to avoid direct contact with the seedling tray. Place the seedling tray in an environment of 25-30℃, or put it in a small shed, and seedlings will generally emerge in 4-7 days.

5. Seedling Management

After the loofah seedlings emerge, remove the film in time for ventilation, keep the temperature above 20℃, and keep the soil moist but not overwatered. Ensure sufficient light and good ventilation, and transplanting can be carried out after about a month. About a week before transplanting, remove all films to allow the seedlings to adapt to the natural environment, so as to speed up the seedling establishment and enhance growth.

In short, if you want the loofah to germinate quickly after sowing, the seed treatment work before sowing and the management work after sowing must be done well to make it germinate quickly and well.
