Sesame planting technology and management methods

Sesame planting technology and management methods

Before planting sesame, it is recommended to dry the seeds for 1-2 days, but do not expose them to high temperatures for a long time. The main purpose of drying the seeds is to increase the germination rate of the seeds, prevent diseases, improve the quality of the seeds, and promote strong seedlings.

Sesame planting technology

The planting time for sesame is probably in spring and autumn, and you need to prepare a sandy loam plot with loose soil and good drainage. There are three ways to sow sesame: spot sowing, broadcast sowing and row sowing. Regardless of the sowing method, shallow and even sowing with a depth of 2-3 cm is appropriate.

During the 4-5 leaf age stage, applying sufficient base fertilizer is beneficial to the rapid growth of the sesame root system. In the early stage of flowering, appropriate fertilizer should also be applied to promote rapid growth of the plant, so that the plant can bloom more, produce more seeds, resist high temperatures, avoid empty nodes, and increase yield.

Sesame Management Methods

Sesame requires good field management. If missing or dead seedlings are found, the gaps should be checked and filled in time. When the soil moisture conditions are good, there is no need for excessive watering. Drainage should be done well in seasons with sufficient rain.

Top dressing should also be done according to the usage of base fertilizer and the condition of the seedlings. Generally, top dressing can be done once in the middle growth period of sesame, with about 10 kg of urea applied per mu. After entering the flowering period, spray foliar fertilizer 1-2 times.

In addition, it is necessary to prevent and control diseases and pests, and do a good job in preventing and controlling diseases and pests such as leaf blight, horn blight, cutworms, aphids, etc.
