When is millet harvested in the north?

Millet is a common grain crop in my country and is grown in many areas. It is called millet in the north and sorghum millet in the south. It is widely grown in the temperate and tropical regions of Eurasia. The middle and upper reaches of the Yellow River in my country are the main planting areas, and other areas are planted in small quantities.

Northern millet matures

Millet is planted over a wide area in the north and is generally divided into spring sowing and summer sowing. Spring sowing means sowing after the frost stops in spring and it takes about 135 days from sowing to maturity and harvest, and is harvested in mid-April.

Summer sowing is done before mid-June, and it takes about 100 days to mature and harvest, and can be harvested before October. From this, it can be seen that the growth period of millet varies with the sowing time. In addition, millet is divided into early, mid and late varieties, and the growth period of each variety differs by about ten days.

Northern millet harvest

Millet in the north can be harvested as soon as it matures. Generally, if it is planted in spring, it will mature in about 4 months and be harvested in April. If it is planted in summer, it will mature in about 3 months and be harvested around October.

Northern millet production area and output

Northern millet is mainly grown in the Yellow River Basin, Inner Mongolia, and Northeast China. The main producing areas are Chifeng and Tongliao. The per-acre yield of northern millet is about 300 kg to 400 kg. If it is a hybrid variety, the per-acre yield will be higher.
