What season is suitable for planting cabbage (autumn cabbage planting technology and planting time)

Cabbage, also known as Chinese cabbage, is a variety of kale. Many people in life love cabbage very much, so cabbage is also popular in the market.

Cabbage is highly adaptable and can tolerate both heat and cold. Here we will introduce the planting and management techniques of cabbage in autumn and winter.

1. Cabbage sowing time

Cabbage can be grown in the open field in spring, summer and autumn in the north. If the cabbage is grown by raising seedlings in summer, planting in autumn, and harvesting in autumn and winter, it is called autumn-winter cabbage .

2. Sowing and raising seedlings of cabbage

In the Yangtze River Basin, you can choose dry, ventilated and well-drained land, sow in late July to late August , and use shade nets to grow seedlings.

Remove the shade net after the cabbage seedlings emerge. After 15 days, transplant the cabbage seedlings when they have 2 leaves and 1 heart. Apply top dressing fertilizer once after the seedlings survive.

3. Land preparation and planting of cabbage

Choose a plot of land that has not been planted with cruciferous crops before for planting. After deep plowing and fine harrowing, make ridges and dig deep trenches.

Apply an appropriate amount of basal fertilizer per mu. When the seedlings are about one month old, choose a cloudy or sunny day after 4 pm to plant them. Determine the planting density according to the variety and water them after planting.

4. Field management of cabbage

Water and fertilizer management is mainly to promote growth, with emphasis on fertilization in the late rosette stage and early heart-encapsulating stage. Nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used in the early stage, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are mainly used in the middle and late stages of heart-encapsulating.

Apply topdressing 3-4 times, and timely tillage and weeding. Control the frequency and amount of watering in the late stage of heading to avoid bulb cracking.

5. Cabbage pest control

The diseases of cabbage planted in autumn and winter are relatively minor and generally do not require prevention and control. However, if the insect pests are serious, timely prevention and control should be taken.

After the cabbage is sown and seedled, and field management is done, when the cabbage heads are mature, they can be harvested according to their uses. When harvesting, they can be cut from the root neck on the surface with a knife, and then graded and packaged according to the size of the head for sale.
