Can Trachelospermum jasminoides be propagated by cuttings (How long does it take for the young branches of Trachelospermum jasminoides to take root and survive)

Trachelospermum jasminoides, also known as cross jasmine and windmill jasmine, is distributed in southern my country. Its vine branches are easy to shape, its leaves are evergreen, and it has a strong fragrance when it blooms.

The propagation of Trachelospermum jasminoides is very simple. It can be propagated by cuttings, layering, division, and high pressure, and the survival rate is quite high .

Therefore, the propagation of Trachelospermum jasminoides can be done by cuttings , especially in the rainy season, when its tender stems are very easy to grow aerial roots. By taking advantage of this characteristic, its tender stems can be cut into humus to obtain seedlings with a high survival rate, but the survival rate of old stem cuttings is low.

First, cutting propagation

Trachelospermum jasminoides usually finishes blooming before the Qingming Festival and begins to sprout its first buds. After the Qingming Festival, the temperature has mostly risen to above 20 degrees Celsius, and it is easiest to survive by cuttings at this time.

Take a branch section that is about 2 to 3 years old, trim the wound with a utility knife to make it smooth, and soak it in rooting powder containing "indoleacetic acid" for half an hour.

Finally, plant the cuttings in river sand and keep the soil watered when dry and wet. Place in semi-shaded place to avoid direct sunlight. Spray water every day to increase humidity. It will take about twenty days for the cuttings to take root. It is best to plant in spring and autumn.

Second, division propagation:

The vines of Trachelospermum jasminoides are prone to lodging, and the vines that have fallen to the ground will grow roots when they encounter soil. In spring and autumn, when the temperature is roughly between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius, you can divide the plants.

Simply cut the vines with roots with scissors, and then plant them in soil mixed with 1/3 of each, and they will survive.

Third, layering propagation:

Layering is actually the human intervention of vines to fall to the ground. The vines of Trachelospermum jasminoides are pressed down on the soil, and then "Y"-shaped branches are used to fix the vines to the ground.

Cover with a little sand and use tiles to press it down. In about 2 months, you can use the division method to propagate.

Fourth, high pressure breeding:

Ring-peel the cortex of the vines of Trachelospermum off to make wounds 2 to 3 cm long. Apply mud mixed with rooting agent. Then use a plastic bag to fix it to the vines, put red jade soil or river sand in it, and tie the top of the plastic bag in.

In the upward position of the plastic bag, three small holes are burned with cigarettes to facilitate ventilation and watering. During the later maintenance, the soil in the plastic bag is allowed to dry and wet. The vines can be cut short in about 2 months and transplanted.
