How to control water for succulents

Except for a few succulents that are native to mountainous areas, most of the others are native to desert and semi-desert areas. Over the long term, they have forged a physiological structure that is resistant to drought.

If water control and maintenance are not carried out in autumn and winter, not only will the soil be prone to waterlogging and root rot, but the leaves will also fail to color.

It is recommended that succulents need to control water in autumn and winter. What is water control? The so-called water control is to extend the interval between watering, not just watering a small amount at a time.

For example, if you used to water the plant once every half a month, now you need to wait until about 25 days to water it. Each time you water it, you need to ensure that the water penetrates the soil, so that it will gradually develop its condition and color.

However, flower lovers who have raised succulents are more familiar with this plant. It is a "lazy plant", so you must be extra careful when it comes to watering and water control.

Whether the succulent is lacking water can be judged from the state of its leaves. If the tip of the leaf is dry, it proves that the succulent needs watering. If the leaves of the succulent are always fleshy and have enough water, then there is no need to water the succulent more at this stage.

There is a scientific basis for multi-stage watering of succulents. Only proper watering can make succulent plants more vibrant. Here are four common growth ranges for succulents. Flower lovers with succulents at home can refer to them. Proper watering can make them grow better.

1. Watering new seedlings: It is important to water thoroughly

If they are new seedlings that have just been purchased, the first thing flower lovers need to do is to plant them.

The roots of this type of succulents need to be treated in a certain way, and an appropriate amount of rooting agent should be applied. They should be placed in a ventilated place to dry before being potted.

Watering after potting is very important. At this stage, flower lovers should water the succulents thoroughly. If there is insufficient water, the growth of the new seedlings will deteriorate.

Because at this stage, it needs more water. If you control the water, the new seedlings will look listless and lack spirit, and the subsequent growth will also be affected.

2. Watering during the growing season: Increase watering appropriately

In the season when succulents grow rapidly, watering should be reasonable and the dosage should be increased. When watering some succulents, be careful not to let the flower core part have water.

Otherwise it will cause root rot and poor plant condition. When watering during its growth period, you must choose appropriate water quality. If you use organic fertilizer water for watering, you must do a good job of blending and diluting.

This can avoid the problem of root burn of succulents, and at the same time it can also supplement certain nutrients to the succulents in the growth period, allowing it to grow more vigorously and the condition of the plant will be greatly improved.

During the growth period, the root system of succulents is relatively developed, and it is generally necessary to irrigate with a lot of water. If it is given sufficient water, the fleshiness of the succulents will also be greatly improved. Most succulents grow very well at this stage.

3. Watering during dormancy: watering must be reduced

For succulents, their growth rate is very slow during the dormant period, and some succulents also enter a self-protection state, or even stagnate in growth. The plant's demand for water is reduced, so it is appropriate to reduce watering during this stage.

There should be no water accumulation in the flowerpot of succulent plants so that their dormant growth will not be affected. During the dormant stage, the flower soil environment it needs is mainly dry, which will make its growth easier.

Some succulents also need to be watered during this period. If you water them too much, their roots will rot and it will be very difficult for them to survive the dormant period.

In order to ensure that succulents are in better condition in the subsequent growth stage, it is generally necessary to control water during the dormant period. For some succulents whose dormant state is not very obvious, the amount of watering should also be reduced.

4. Watering for cuttings: water control is a taboo

The leaves (branches) of succulent plants require a relatively large amount of water after cuttings, and sufficient water is needed to allow their roots to grow.

In order to make the succulents reproduce better, flower lovers must also pay attention to not controlling the water for the succulents during the cutting stage. Generally speaking, they need to be kept in a relatively humid growth environment.

At the same time, cutting propagation should be carried out in seasons with clear weather and suitable temperatures.

At this stage, it needs a lot of nutrients and water. If flower lovers control water too much, it will cause its cuttings to be in poor condition. After the cuttings are successfully grafted and the roots grow out, flower lovers can appropriately reduce watering and transplant.

In addition to water control, if we want our succulents to be in better condition and more beautiful, we also need to do the following two steps of maintenance and management.

Step 1: Lighting

Succulent plants like a sunny growing environment, especially in autumn and winter. If they are placed in a location with poor light for maintenance at this time, they cannot be kept in good condition and color simply by controlling water.

It is recommended to place it in a location with scattered light for maintenance, but you can do it according to your own maintenance method.

Step 2: Temperature Difference

Succulents like a warm and comfortable growing environment, and the optimal temperature for growth is between 15 and 28 degrees Celsius. If they are placed in a warm place indoors for maintenance at this time, the chlorophyll will not be able to turn into other colors.

It is recommended to control water in autumn and winter to promote the state, provide sufficient sunlight to produce more chlorophyll, and only by creating a temperature difference between morning and evening can the state and color be quickly achieved.

For example, in the south, you can place it outdoors for natural maintenance, while in the north, you can open the window slightly at night to cool down.
