How to make Christmas cactus flower bloom again after it fades

Although Christmas cactus has beautiful flowers, its flowering period is relatively short. It blooms for about half a month before gradually withering.

Some flower lovers’ Christmas cacti have already bloomed early in winter, while others are still in the process of forming flower buds. So how should they care for these Christmas cacti that have bloomed early?

In fact, for Christmas cactus that blooms early, after it blooms, as long as it is properly maintained, the plant will bloom again after a while. Let's learn how to make Christmas cactus bloom again.

1. Prune leaf buds:

When Christmas cactus is in bloom, it will also grow new leaves one after another. The consumption of nutrients for flowering and growing new leaves is very huge. When it is in bloom, you should often pick off the new leaf buds of Christmas cactus to reduce nutrient consumption.

The flowering position of Christmas cactus is mostly on the 1- to 2-year-old leaves, and the new leaves do not grow flower buds.

2. Prune the dead flowers early:

When most of the flowers of Christmas cactus are withered, it is necessary to trim off the withered flowers and a small number of flower buds in advance.

This can reduce the consumption of nutrients and keep the Christmas cactus in the flowering period. The best time for the first flowering is in January, otherwise it will miss the flowering period.

3. Fertilize in advance:

When pruning the remaining flowers, add balanced organic fertilizer about a week in advance to replenish the nutrients consumed by Christmas cactus during flowering. Fertilization can be biased towards phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. When it is possible to assist in fertilization, irrigate once with an 800-fold aqueous solution of "potassium dihydrogen phosphate".

4. Control temperature and temperature difference:

The temperature of the controlled environment should be between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. This is an indispensable link. The temperature for flower bud differentiation of Christmas cactus should be between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius.

If the temperature cannot reach the level, then secondary flowering is impossible. In addition to the appropriate temperature, the temperature difference between day and night must be between 6 and 8 degrees.

5. Provide appropriate amount of light:

After controlling the temperature, the next thing is the issue of light. When Christmas cactus is undergoing flower bud differentiation, the light exposure time should reach bright light during the day, with at least 3 hours of light every day.

Flower lovers in the north can utilize the reflection principle of lenses and use multiple lenses to reflect light sources onto Christmas cactus.

6. Hormone fertilizer promotes flowering:

About 10 days after pruning Christmas cactus, you can apply organic fertilizer again to supplement "nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium". Phosphorus and potassium can promote flowering.

After applying organic fertilizer twice, the first new leaves are leaf buds and can be removed. About a week later, you can spray the leaves with a 1200-fold "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" aqueous solution. Repeat 3 times with an interval of one week each time.
