How to propagate lavender by sowing

It can be grown by sowing and seedling raising, has fast reproduction, well-developed root system, and strong seedlings, but it has great variability, making it a good material for seed selection.

The seeds should be uniform in size, plump and have a brown luster.

The seeds must be dried before sowing. Soak them in 30℃ warm water for 12-24 hours, soak them in concentrated sulfuric acid for 5 minutes, wash them with water, and dry them before sowing.

Seeds can be sown and propagated in April. The minimum temperature for seed germination is 8-12℃, the optimum temperature is 20-25℃, and transplanting is carried out in May. However, lavender seed reproduction has large variation and the seed price is high.

How to propagate lavender by cuttings

Lavender is mainly propagated by cuttings, which can maintain the excellent quality of the mother plant.

Cuttings have strong adaptability and can be carried out in spring and autumn. Generally, healthy top buds of plants without diseases and insect pests or tender, non-lignified branches are selected for cuttings. When cutting, the leaves of the bottom two nodes are removed, and then they are soaked in 100 times diluted "Gen Taiyang" rooting agent. After treatment, they will take root in about 2-3 weeks after being inserted into the soil.

The medium for cuttings can be made by mixing river sand and rice bran in a ratio of 2:1, and then putting it into a 5*10 hole tray for cuttings.

After grafting, place the seedlings in a ventilated and cool environment. Keep the soil moist for the first three days, and then depending on the weather, ensure that the branches do not wrinkle or dry out, so as to increase the survival rate.

Cutting seedlings are relatively easy to manage and no fertilizer is required during the entire seedling period, so they are widely used in production.
