How to care for Kalanchoe after it buds

How to maintain the Kalanchoe after it forms buds so that it is not easy to lose buds and buds, and the flowering period is longer? After the Kalanchoe forms buds, the following aspects need to be paid attention to:

First, control the lighting:

Kalanchoe blooms and forms buds mostly in late autumn and early winter. Before the flowers grow out, they can be exposed to more light.

After the buds grow out, you can control the light exposure of the Kalanchoe to about 3 to 5 hours, keeping bright light during the day. With the right light exposure time, the flowering time of the Kalanchoe can be extended by about 3 to 5 days.

Second, continue to apply fertilizer

If you want the Kalanchoe to form flower buds as early as possible, you must apply some high-phosphorus fertilizers (such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, Huaduoduo No. 2 or Bikaihua) to promote flower bud differentiation.

The concentration is 1000 times, that is, one gram of fertilizer is mixed with 1000 grams of water. The frequency of use is about once a week to 10 days .

If the buds of other flowers have already formed, Xiaomei would recommend not using these high-phosphorus fertilizers because they will shorten the flowering period, but Kalanchoe is an exception.

Why? Because the period of bud formation of Kalanchoe is particularly long. Other flowers will bloom in a few days after the buds are formed, but the process of bud formation of Kalanchoe takes one or two months.

Therefore, you should continue to apply the fertilizer, maintain a concentration of 1000 times, and maintain the frequency of fertilization at about one week to 10 days , and continue to apply high-phosphorus fertilizer to the Kalanchoe.

So when should we stop fertilizing?

The flower buds of the Kalanchoe are green grains the size of millet grains at first. After one or two months, as time goes by, its flower buds will slowly become plumper and larger.

When it grows to the size of swollen soybeans and the outer layer of the flower bud has signs of color, you can stop fertilizing .

From this time onwards, until the flowers of the Kalanchoe have faded, no more fertilizer is needed. Because if you still fertilize during its blooming period, it will speed up its metabolism and shorten the flowering period.

Third, control the temperature of the curing location:

The temperature in winter is already relatively low, and the temperature in many flower lovers' locations begins to drop below 15 degrees Celsius. At such a temperature, the growth of Kalanchoe is hindered, and insulation is required.

Once the temperature is below 8 degrees Celsius for about 3 consecutive days, many flowers will fall. The temperature at night will be lower than the temperature during the day. It is best to use bamboo strips as a support and cover them with plastic bags for insulation.

Fourth, drugs prolong the flowering period:

In the natural state, the Kalanchoe undergoes reproductive growth and flower buds begin to appear. At this time, you can use a 1200 times water solution of "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" to spray.

When spraying, be careful to spray on the trunk or leaves, and do not spray on the buds with dense flower buds to avoid water accumulation and rot of the flower buds. After testing, the longevity flowers sprayed with "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" can extend the flowering time of a single season by about 1 week.

Fifth, control the frequency of watering:

Kalanchoe has good drought tolerance. From the bud formation stage to the flowering stage, I would recommend flower lovers to appropriately extend the watering time. Even if the soil in the flowerpot is completely dry, you can still extend the watering time by about 2 to 3 days.

When we apply organic fertilizer, the proportion of nitrogen is relatively high, and it stays in the soil for a longer time. When watering, the water will carry more "nitrogen" into the body of the Kalanchoe, resulting in reduced flowering, longer pedicels, and larger leaves.

After the buds are formed, you should control the water first. Wait until the buds open slightly and change from green to green, then water thoroughly when the soil is dry or wet.

Kind tips

The flowering period of Kalanchoe is in winter and spring. Now is the flowering period. The Kalanchoe of many flower lovers has already formed buds. At this time, you must be careful to maintain it to avoid the phenomenon of bud disappearance before the buds open.
