How to deal with and care for Phalaenopsis after it blooms

Don't worry after the Phalaenopsis orchid has withered. As long as it is properly maintained, it can bloom again, and the flowers will bloom again next year, which can save a lot of money. Next, we will learn about how to deal with the flower sword after the Phalaenopsis orchid has bloomed and how to maintain it in detail.

First, pruning

After Phalaenopsis blooms, it consumes a lot of nutrients, so it is necessary to trim the remaining flowers in time . The remaining flowers and flower stems will continue to consume limited nutrients. Timely trimming of the remaining flowers can reduce nutrient consumption.

When pruning, pay attention to pruning about 2 cm above the peduncle. If you prune too low, the splashing planting material when watering will easily infect the wound .

Second, change the pot and soil

The Phalaenopsis planting materials purchased from flower shops are too moisturizing. This is because when caring for Phalaenopsis, in addition to the flower soil not being able to accumulate water, the planting materials used are mostly planting materials with better moisturizing properties. After these planting materials have been maintained for a period of time, they are prone to produce bacteria under high humidity.

In addition, Phalaenopsis has a long flowering period and consumes a lot of nutrients, so the nutrients in the soil are basically exhausted. So the soil needs to be replaced.

Phalaenopsis is an epiphytic orchid, with aerial roots attached to the surface of rocks or tree trunks, absorbing water and nutrients from the air. The planting material should be loose and breathable.

It is advisable to choose substrates such as sphagnum moss, bark, large particles of volcanic rock, coconut shells, fibers, and ceramsite. It is suitable to plant shallowly.

Third, maintain the environment

Phalaenopsis is a tropical rainforest plant that likes warm and humid environments and is afraid of cold and dryness. The optimum temperature for growth is 15-20℃. It will stop growing below 10℃ in winter and will easily die below 5℃.

The air humidity required for growth must reach above 65%. However, warm and humid locations are more prone to bacteria. This is why the soil for maintaining Phalaenopsis orchids must be disinfected and replaced frequently.

To care for Phalaenopsis, a semi-shaded environment is needed, and the lighting time should be appropriately changed according to the differences in light and temperature.

In spring, when the temperature is around 15 degrees, you can keep the Phalaenopsis in full sun. In summer, once the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius, you need to shade it. It can be placed in a bright light position and receive about 2 hours of scattered light every day.

Fourth, water replenishment method

Phalaenopsis is quite picky about the hardness and pH value of water, so it is recommended to leave tap water for 3 to 5 days before use to evaporate the chlorine in the water and precipitate some calcium carbonate.

When watering, pay attention to alternating between dry and wet. Water the plants when they are dry. When the planting material is semi-dry, use spraying to replenish water. Keep the water temperature consistent with the ambient temperature. In summer, the earlier the better. In winter, watering is best after noon.

When watering, make sure to "not water unless the soil is dry, and water thoroughly if you do", and then spray the leaves and aerial roots to replenish water.

Fifth, fertilization

Phalaenopsis's roots in the soil are not very good at absorbing nutrients. However, the leaves and aerial roots can capture some ions in the air and turn them into the nutrients they need, so heavy fertilizers should not be used when fertilizing.

You can ferment the "rice water" and then dilute it with water at a ratio of 1 to 5, and apply thin fertilizer frequently once every 10 days.

During the vigorous growth period, you can use urea to spray the leaves and aerial roots. Urea has a high nitrogen content and can promote leaf growth. After using "urea" for a week, use "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" to supplement the leaves and aerial roots.

It is recommended not to use solid "organic fertilizer" when fertilizing, as organic fertilizer can easily lead to the growth of more harmful bacteria when it is wet.

Sixth, promote flowering

It is difficult for Phalaenopsis to bloom again if it is maintained in a home environment. The reasons are as follows:

The temperature for promoting flowering is 20-24℃ during the day and 17-20℃ at night. It takes 2 months from the beginning of the bud formation to the growth of the pedicel to about 10 cm. When the temperature is low, heat it, and when the temperature is high, cool it down.

Use the trunk as a support, and put plastic film on the bamboo frame to make a homemade small greenhouse. Put it on the Phalaenopsis when the temperature is low. When the temperature is high, shade it and use a fan or humidifier to use convection wind and humidity to reduce the humidity of the small environment.
