Things to note when repotting Podocarpus: methods and seasons for changing soil and pots

Things to note when repotting Podocarpus

Podocarpus is mostly repotted in early spring or late autumn . Podocarpus has poor cold resistance so it is mostly planted in southern China. Therefore, early spring and late autumn are better seasons for repotting in the natural growth environment.

1. Moisture

Podocarpus consumes relatively little water when repotting, but it cannot lack the humidity needed for growth. It must be watered in time after repotting. In the hot summer, it is recommended to water it twice a day. Normally, you should spray the plant with water more often to achieve the effect of cooling and moisturizing.

2. Season

Han pine has poor cold resistance, so it is not recommended to repot it in winter . If you need to repot it in winter, you need to keep the indoor temperature at a suitable level. It is also not recommended to repot in summer, as high temperatures will result in a low survival rate for the plant.

Tips for repotting Podocarpus

1. Suitable soil

Podocarpus is not suitable for compacted soil. Inadequate watering will make it difficult for its roots to breathe. Most of the soil suitable for Podocarpus is leaf mold, which is mixed with some large-particle loam to fully ensure that the soil is fertile, loose and breathable.

2. Proper pruning

After taking the Podocarpus out of the pot, keep some old soil at the roots to better adapt to the environment. It is recommended to keep about one-third of loam. Then, trim the overly long capillary roots and rotten roots to reduce excessive nutrient consumption.
