Bamboo transplanting time and method Best time for transplanting (easy to survive)

The best season for transplanting bamboo is spring and autumn. The temperature at this time is most suitable for bamboo growth. The survival rate of bamboo transplanted during this period is also the highest, and the bamboo can adapt to the pot the fastest.

Bamboo transplanting time

It is best not to transplant bamboo in winter as frostbite is likely to occur due to low temperatures. The best time to transplant bamboo is in March in spring. Transplanting can be delayed until May in low temperature areas.

If you miss this period, you can also choose to transplant in autumn from September to November. Although the climate is not as suitable as in spring, the survival rate is also higher. After transplanting, the bamboo should be placed in a well-ventilated and cool place for maintenance.

Bamboo transplanting technology

1. Pot soil preparation

When transplanting bamboo, you can choose a clay pot or mud pot with good drainage and ventilation. As for the soil, bamboo prefers well-drained, loose, breathable, fertile, slightly acidic soil. You can mix sandy soil, leaf mold, and manure to make a mixture. Before filling the soil, cover the bottom of the pot with a layer of broken tiles or bricks to facilitate drainage.

2. Remove the pot and prune

If the bamboo is being repotted because the original pot is too small, it needs to be removed from the pot. Be gentle when removing the pot to avoid damaging the roots. After removing the pot, trim the roots, cut off withered roots, rotten roots and too dense roots, then apply carbendazim to the wound for disinfection and place it in a ventilated place to dry the wound.

3. Transplant

After the wounds of the bamboo have dried, it can be transplanted. When transplanting, place the plant in the center of the pot, add soil layer by layer and press it down to promote close integration of the roots with the new soil. Add soil until it is 3 to 5 cm away from the edge of the pot, and water it once to complete the transplanting.

Post-transplantation care of bamboo

After transplanting, the Tiannan bamboo is in a fragile state and should be placed in a well-ventilated and shady place for maintenance. Water it when the soil surface is dry to keep the soil moist. After about 15 days, it can gradually accept light and resume normal management.
