How many meters are suitable for watermelon planting row spacing and plant spacing?

Watermelon planting spacing

The planting spacing of watermelons is related to the planting location. Generally, the space when growing watermelons in a greenhouse is limited, so the plant spacing should be 40 to 50 centimeters and the row spacing should be 1.6 to 1.8 meters .

The row spacing for open-air watermelon planting should be between 1.6 and 2.2 meters , and the plant spacing should be kept at 40 to 50 centimeters . The reserved gaps allow the vines to grow freely, making it convenient for pruning small vines, removing buds, and clearing weeds in the field.

Watermelon yield per mu

Generally speaking, the yield of watermelon per mu is between 5,000 and 10,000 jin. The yield of watermelon per mu is mainly determined by the variety of watermelon, the place where the watermelon is planted, and our daily management.

The same watermelon variety, the same planting area, as long as the management is not in place, the watermelon yield will be significantly different. Similarly, the same management method, as long as the soil is different, the watermelon variety is different, the watermelon yield will also be different:

1. Different varieties have different yields

The first batch yield of Midu watermelon is about 3,000-3,300 kilograms per mu, the first batch yield of Youdu watermelon is basically 2,800-3,100 kilograms per mu, and the first batch yield of Zaojia watermelon is about 2,500-3,000 kilograms per mu.

2. Different yields in different planting areas

Zaojia watermelon is an early-maturing watermelon variety planted in winter, mostly grown in Shangri-La area. Its yield per mu of the first batch of watermelons is about 2,800 kilograms. However, in Chuxiong area, the watermelons grow slowly after planting and cannot grow large, so the yield per mu of the first batch of watermelons is only about 2,500 kilograms.

Watermelon harvest time

Most watermelons ripen in summer, and a few varieties ripen in other seasons. Of course, the ripening time varies in different regions. In the south, watermelons are generally ripe in early June, while in the north, watermelons are on the market in May of the lunar calendar.
