Except for winter, small-leaf boxwood can be propagated by cuttings in spring, summer and autumn, and the survival rate is very high. Choose small-leaf boxwood that has grown for 1-2 years, select strong branches as cuttings, and plant them in the prepared cutting bed, waiting for rooting and survival. 1. Cutting time It is necessary to choose the right time for cuttings of small-leaf boxwood. It is best to carry out cuttings propagation in spring, summer and autumn. The chances of rooting and survival are relatively high, especially in June to August each year, which is the most suitable time for cuttings of small-leaf boxwood. 2. Cutting seedling bed In order for small-leaf boxwood to take root faster, it is necessary to provide a plot of land with deep, loose soil and convenient drainage. The weeds and stones on the soil should be removed, and then it should be irrigated with mancozeb solution to eliminate pests and pathogens. The seedbed should be leveled and organic fertilizer should be applied. 3. Cutting selection On the boxwood, select lignified or semi-lignified branches that are about one year old and free of pests and diseases. Use sterilized scissors to cut 15-20 cm, retain 2-3 buds, trim the top into a round flat cut, and make an oblique cut at the bottom. Soak them in rooting solution for 30-60 minutes, dry them in the shade, and wait for cuttings. 4. Take cuttings Insert the prepared cuttings obliquely into the substrate, with the cuttings tilted at about 45 degrees to the ground. Do not insert them too deep. After cuttings, compact the surrounding soil, then water the soil thoroughly to promote close integration of the lower part of the cuttings with the soil. 5. Post-insertion management After the boxwood cuttings are planted, if the temperature is relatively low, you can cover it with a film to ensure that the temperature is suitable. You should also water it frequently after planting to keep the soil moist so that the boxwood can take root faster. |
