Huilan repotting time

The potting soil of Cymbidium needs to be changed every 1-2 years. The time for changing the pot is generally chosen in spring and autumn when the climate is suitable. It can be chosen in spring when the germination is strong, or in autumn after flowering. Changing the pot at the right time can help restore growth and maintain vigorous growth momentum in the later period.

Huilan repotting method and steps

1. Removal from the pot: Before removing the Cymbidium orchid from the pot, stop watering and fertilizing three days in advance and keep the soil relatively dry to facilitate the removal operation. Carefully take the Cymbidium orchid out of the pot, remove the old soil on the roots, trim the rotten roots, and place it in a cool place to dry for 1-2 days.

2. Prepare potting soil: Prepare flower pots of suitable size in advance. There must be many holes at the bottom and around the flower pots to maintain good air permeability and ensure smooth drainage. The cultivation soil can be leaf mold mixed with bark, fern roots, etc., which can facilitate water infiltration and drainage.

3. Planting in pots: Spread charcoal or expanded clay at the bottom of the pot, fill the pot with the prepared soil, and then plant the Cymbidium plant into the soil so that the substrate is filled and fits the roots tightly.

Maintenance of Huilan after repotting

It usually takes 20-30 days for Cymbidium to adapt to the pot after being repotted. After repotting, it can be placed in a bright place to receive sufficient scattered light. The ambient temperature should be kept above 15 degrees. When the air is dry, spray water to maintain good humidity.
