Pepper planting and harvesting time

Pepper planting and harvesting time

Pepper planting time

The planting time of peppers should be determined according to the climatic conditions of the planting site. Since peppers like heat, the best sowing period in spring and early summer is March to July. Generally, early sowing will promote more full growth of peppers and is conducive to producing more crops of peppers.

Pepper harvest time

It usually takes about 2-3 months for peppers to mature and be harvested. Peppers in the south begin to be harvested in June and July and can continue until around November. Peppers in the north generally mature in September and October of the lunar calendar. Open-air cultivation in the north generally begins to mature in late August and ends in mid-October, but if it is cultivated in a greenhouse, it can be planted all year round.

Key points for high-yield pepper cultivation

1. Land preparation

It is best to choose a fertile and well-drained field to plant peppers. Before sowing, the soil should be deeply turned over to a depth of 20-30 cm, and exposed to the sun for about 3 days. After that, apply rotted farmyard manure, water until the soil is soaked, and then sowing can be carried out.

2. Planting

Pepper seeds are small and do not need to be germinated. They can be sown directly and covered with 3 cm thick soil. If the temperature is low, a layer of plastic film can be covered. Wait for about a week for the seeds to germinate. When the seedlings grow 6 to 8 pairs of true leaves, they can be transplanted and maintained.

3. Management

During the growth period, peppers should be watered frequently to keep the soil moist, and foliar fertilizers should be applied regularly. During the vigorous growth period, low-concentration urea fertilizer can be applied once every half a month. When entering summer, attention should be paid to shade and sun protection, otherwise it will affect the yield and quality of peppers.
