What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Croton rotundus

Growth habit of Croton

Codiaeum prefers a hot, humid and sunny environment, but is not cold-resistant. The optimum temperature for its growth is 20-30℃, 21-30℃ from March to October, and 13-18℃ from October to March of the following year. When the temperature is 4-5℃, the leaves will be damaged by frost, causing a large number of leaves to fall, or even the whole plant to freeze to death, so the winter temperature should not be lower than 13℃.

Cultivation method of Codiaeum variegatum

Soil: You need to prepare a highly fertile and well-drained soil as the substrate. You can use a uniform mixture of garden soil, coarse peat, and leaf mold as the substrate. You can also add some coarse sand to make the roots of the croton grow better.

Light: It prefers light, but cannot be kept under direct light. You can place it indoors in a place with scattered light.

Temperature: It is afraid of cold and cannot grow in cold places, which will freeze the plant. The wintering temperature is between 10-15℃, and the leaves will fall off if the temperature drops to this level.

Watering : It has high requirements for water. It is relatively drought-resistant, but it needs a lot of water. From April to September, not only should it be watered with a lot of water, but some water should also be sprayed on its leaves. However, water accumulation should not be caused, otherwise the roots of the plant will easily rot.

Fertilizer : It likes fertilizer, usually apply it once every 15 days, use decomposed fertilizer, and do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer, as too much will cause the leaves to lose luster.

Pruning : It is necessary to prune the Croton in time. Properly prune the overly long side branches and cut off the yellow branches and leaves. This can reduce the consumption of soil nutrients and promote better growth of the Croton.

Precautions for growing Codiaeum variegatum

It is best not to apply fertilizer in late autumn to avoid the growth of new shoots. It is more likely to attract insects during maintenance, so pay attention to spraying pesticides and do not let insects stay on the plants for a long time.
