The legend of citrus

Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a stubborn stone in front of the lotus throne of Guanyin Bodhisattva. It fed on the nectar of the sun and the moon and absorbed the essence of heaven and earth. After being bathed in Buddhist scriptures for more than 30,000 years, it became spiritual and became a boy beside Guanyin Bodhisattva.

One day, the Bodhisattva asked him what good deed he wanted to do. The stone man replied, "I want to bring the golden fruits from the golden tree outside the South Heaven Gate to the human world to cure the sufferings of the people." Guanyin Bodhisattva nodded in approval.

So the stone man turned into a young man and went down to the earth with the golden fruit. He traveled all over China looking for a place suitable for planting the golden fruit. That day, he came to Lianfeng Mountain in Huangyan, where Guanyin Bodhisattva once sat. The climate here is mild, the environment is beautiful, the land is fertile, and there is the clear Jiuqu Chengjiang River flowing through the area in front of the mountain. It is the best place to grow golden fruit.

So the young man built a thatched hut beside Lianfeng Mountain and settled down there. He went to the riverside and carried 360 loads of mud, piled it into a mound 36 feet high, and poured 36 loads of mud on it. Finally, he planted the shining golden fruit on the mound. After three years and six months, a lush and tall tree grew on the mound. Autumn has arrived, and the trees are laden with fruits. The golden fruits that bend the branches are so heavy that they even illuminate the clear river water. The stone man distributed these plump and tempting golden fruits to the nearby people for them to taste, and taught them how to cultivate them. The people were very happy and started to plant golden fruits. After a few years, lush golden fruit trees could be seen on both sides of the Chengjiang River. Eating golden fruit can prevent all kinds of diseases and prolong life. Therefore, the golden fruit was regarded as a lucky fruit by people, and this golden fruit is now the citrus fruit.
