When is the best time to sow snow lotus?

Snow lotus sowing time

A herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, Saussurea ovata, can be propagated by various methods such as division, leaf cuttings, and sowing. It can germinate 7-8 days after sowing, and bloom and bear fruit in the second year after planting. The flowering period is from July to August.

Snow lotus can be planted in spring, and the best time is March to April. If direct seeding is used, it should not exceed April at the latest, as the climate and temperature are more suitable at this time.

Snow lotus sowing method

1. Processing seeds

When sowing snow lotus, it is best to choose seeds that are plump, large and shiny. Before sowing, they should be soaked in a 1500-fold solution for about one minute.

2. Sowing

Snow lotus seeds can be sown in holes. Place the seeds flat in the hole and cover with soil about 0.8-1 cm. The ambient temperature needs to be controlled at around 20-25℃. Seedlings will emerge in about 7-8 days.

Snow lotus planting tips and techniques

1. When the snow lotus seedlings grow to 5-6 cm, they can be transplanted. The best time to transplant is on a cloudy day or after rain.

2. The soil used for sowing snow lotus must be loose and fertile. Humus soil, sandy soil, and organic fertilizer can be used for reasonable configuration. The pH value should be between 5.5-7.5. The soil must be disinfected before use.
