Can blueberries be grown in Guangxi?

Blueberries can be grown in Guangxi. Blueberries have relatively high requirements for soil conditions. A pH value between 4.3 and 5.5 is most suitable for growing blueberries. If the natural soil does not meet the requirements, artificial soil improvement can also be carried out.

Blueberries are mainly distributed in areas with cool climates and plenty of sunshine, such as North Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, Europe, North America, and Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Changbai Mountain in Jilin in mainland China. If you want to grow blueberries in Guangxi, you can choose rabbiteye blueberries and southern highbush blueberries.

Guangxi Blueberry Planting Technology

1. Lighting

Blueberries also have requirements for light exposure time. Dwarf blueberries and semi-high blueberries can only grow when the light exposure time reaches more than 12 hours. The growth increases continuously from 8 hours to 16 hours, reaching a peak at 16 hours. Therefore, when the plant is in a light exposure of more than 16 hours, there is nutritional growth but no flower bud formation. With 8 hours of light, the number of flower buds formed reaches the maximum value.

2. Temperature

The flowering and fruiting of blueberries require the storage of cold, which means that the growth temperature must be controlled below 5°C. In the south where the temperature is comfortable, when the storage of cold is not up to standard, blueberries will only bloom but not bear fruit. Therefore, when the temperature cannot be reached, artificial intervention can be carried out.

3. Watering

The roots of blueberries are relatively shallow and they are sensitive to water lack. In most cases, they need to be irrigated in time according to soil conditions. River water, reservoir water or groundwater can be used as irrigation sources, but water sources with high salt content and high pH value should be avoided for irrigation.

4. Soil

Blueberries need suitable, loose and well-drained sandy loam. If the soil is moist, it will not easily accumulate water.
