When is the best time to sow Gloxinia

Gloxinia sowing time

Gloxinia is a plant of the Gesneriaceae family and the Gloxinia genus. It likes a warm environment and is suitable for sowing in August in autumn. The temperature at this time is relatively pleasant, neither cold nor hot, which is suitable for seed germination and can increase the survival rate.

Gloxinia sowing method

1. Gloxinia is generally propagated by sowing, but before sowing, the seeds must be soaked in warm water for 24 hours to make them germinate early, then taken out and placed in a well-ventilated environment to dry.

2. Prepare loose, fertile soil. You can mix leaf mold, garden soil and fine sand, and put it into a shallow pot or wooden box. After leveling the soil, sprinkle the seeds evenly. Water once to keep the soil moist, and place it in an environment of 18 to 20 degrees for germination.

3. After Gloxinia sprouts, it can see some light, but not strong light. At this time, you can also water it appropriately. During the growth period, it needs timely topdressing. Nitrogen fertilizer can be applied. Before the flowering period, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be added to promote flowering and enhance the ornamental value.

Gloxinia flowering time

After sowing in autumn, Gloxinia will not bloom until the next year. It takes about 6 months from sowing to flowering. The flowering period is from March to August. It is in full bloom in summer. If it is well maintained, the flowering period will be extended and can last until September and October.
