Cucumbers are widely distributed in China, and are grown in greenhouses or plastic greenhouses in many places. They are now widely planted in temperate and tropical regions.

Cucumber Growing Conditions

Cucumbers need sufficient light to grow. As light-loving vegetables, sufficient light is beneficial to increasing yields. However, varieties with different ecological types have different light requirements. North China type cucumbers are not strict about the length of daylight, while South China type cucumbers have a certain short-day characteristic. Generally speaking, short daylight of 8 to 11 hours is conducive to the differentiation and formation of female flowers.

Cucumber growing temperature

Cucumbers like a warm environment. The suitable temperature for germination is between 25-30 degrees, and the suitable growth temperature is between 18-32 degrees. Cucumbers like a humid environment. During the growth period, water frequently to maintain the moistness of the soil, and the soil pH value should be between 5.5 and 7.2.

Cucumber growth process

The growth process of cucumber mainly includes four stages: germination, seedling, initial flowering and fruiting. After sowing, if the temperature is suitable, the seedlings will emerge in about 4 days. It takes about 25 days from the growth of 4-5 true leaves to the establishment of the first female flower. It usually takes 30 to 100 days from the establishment of the first fruit to the establishment of the vines.

Cucumber planting time and method

Cucumbers are generally planted in spring from January to March, and in summer and autumn from June to August. When choosing cucumber varieties, you should choose those that are free of diseases and pests and have high yields.

Before planting cucumbers, we need to soak the seeds in warm water for more than six hours to clean up the debris on the surface of the cucumber seeds. After soaking, we wash them with clean water and dry them before we can plant them.
