Taro is a vegetable, also known as ground chestnut and yellow chestnut taro. It is a plant of the Araceae family and the genus Taro. It matures and is on the market in September and October every year.

Nutritional value of taro

After being cooked, taro is sandy and fragrant, delicious and tasty, and can be eaten in a variety of ways. The more common ways to eat it are taro braised pork ribs, sandy taro, taro with scallion oil, taro ribs, taro cake, taro braised pork, etc.

Taro has high nutritional value. It is rich in crude protein, polysaccharides, starch, protein, vitamins, etc. It has the effects of detoxification, nourishing the body, tonifying the liver and kidneys, benefiting the stomach and spleen, and improving human immunity.

Taro Origin and Planting

Taro is native to China and India. Common production areas in my country include Shandong, Fujian, Jiangsu, Henan, Hunan and other provinces. Among them, the Jingjiang Taro in Jiangsu is relatively famous. It has a delicate texture, dry and delicious taste and excellent quality.

Taro is best planted around the Qingming Festival, when the temperature should be around 13-15℃. The soil should be loose and fertile, soft, and rich in organic matter. The pH value of the soil should be between 5.5-7.
