What are the cultivation methods and precautions of peony?

Peony cultivation method

Peony, also known as Bieli grass, belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. Traditional methods of reproduction include division, sowing, cuttings, layering, etc. Among them, division is more commonly used, and sowing is generally used when cultivating new varieties. It usually has about 5-13 petals and the flowering period is generally about one month.

Peony needs sufficient sunlight during maintenance. If it is kept in a dark environment for a long time, it will be difficult for it to bloom. It should be watered every 3-4 days to keep the soil moist, and quick-acting fertilizer should be applied before and after flowering. In winter, the temperature needs to be kept above 10 degrees.

Watering method

In spring and autumn, peonies are generally watered in the morning, while in summer, watering should be avoided at noon. In winter, they can be watered at noon. The temperature of the water used should not be much different from the low temperature, and the amount of water should be moderate so as not to cause water accumulation.

Fertilization method

Peonies need to be fertilized appropriately at normal times. They can be fertilized two weeks after the flowers fade, because they absorb all the nutrients in the soil during flowering. High-phosphorus fertilizer is generally used.

Pruning methods

Peonies need to be pruned after they sprout in spring, usually around March to May each year. The flower buds need to be picked off, the remaining flowers need to be cut off, and some weak and diseased branches also need to be cut off.

Precautions for peony cultivation

When caring for peony, you need to be careful. When planting, you must use loose soil that is acidic. Wait until the soil is dry before watering it. Apply fertilizer three times a year and it should have sufficient sunlight.
