What are the cultivation methods and precautions of cactus?

Cactus cultivation method

Cactus is a plant of the Cactaceae family. It is mostly propagated by division, cutting and grafting. It likes strong light, is resistant to heat and drought, is thin and has strong vitality. The suitable temperature for growth is 20-30℃, and it is suitable for growing in soil with strong drainage and air permeability.

In the process of cultivating cactus, it is best to use well-drained slightly alkaline fertile sandy soil to cultivate it. Plant growth is promoted under the sun, so it should be exposed to more sunlight, but shaded in midsummer to prevent direct sunlight from burning the plant. The growth temperature should be controlled at 20~30℃, and the temperature should be kept above 5℃ in winter.

Watering method

Cactus does not need much watering at ordinary times, just keep it half wet to avoid water accumulation in the pot. June to August is the season when cactus grows vigorously. To promote growth, water it once a day in general, keep the soil moist, pay attention to drainage in the rainy season, and do not water it during the dormant period.

Fertilization method

Fertilizing cacti is generally done during the growing season, but fertilization should use fully decomposed organic fertilizers and residual fertilizers.

Pruning methods

Pruning cacti is usually done when repotting, removing the old roots of the plant, shortening the overly long roots, and promoting the growth of new roots.

Cactus cultivation precautions

1. The soil of young cactus plants needs to be replaced once a year, while that of growing plants does not need to be replaced every year. However, after a period of growth, the nutrients in the pot disappear, the roots of the plants are filled with the soil, the soil becomes hard, and the drainage is poor, and the roots are prone to rot, so the soil in the pot is generally replaced every 2 to 3 years.

2. Fast-growing cactus varieties will be larger in pots when repotted than in the original pots. During the cultivation process, the surface soil of the pots should be loosened frequently to ensure good ventilation of the soil and growth of the root system.
