How to propagate cat's eye arrowroot and what to pay attention to

Cat's eye arrowroot propagation method

There are mainly four methods of propagation for cat's eye arrowroot: division, cuttings and sowing. Its seeds can be propagated, and its natural reproduction method is sowing, among which cuttings are the fastest.

Cat's eye arrowroot breeding time

Cat's eye arrowroot is suitable for reproduction in spring and autumn. When the temperature is around 20 degrees, it is suitable for root germination. Therefore, it can be carried out in spring from March to May and autumn from September to October, and the reproduction survival rate is high.

Propagation of cat's eye arrowroot by division

Cat's eye arrowroot can be propagated by division. The survival rate in spring is higher than that by cuttings. Use sharp scissors to cut the root block, which needs to have stems, leaves or leaf buds on it. Place it directly in the flowerpot and keep it in a cool place. Keep the soil slightly moist and wait for the rhizomes to take root and sprout before you can cultivate it normally.

Cat's eye arrowroot cutting propagation

1. Cutting time: Cat's eye arrowroot likes a warm environment and grows fastest in an environment of 20-30 degrees, so it is best to carry out cuttings in late spring and early summer. At this time, the plant is most active and the cutting survival rate is high.

2. Cutting selection: The most important thing for cuttings of cat's eye arrowroot is to choose the right cuttings. You can pick the top tender shoots of a well-growing cat's eye arrowroot pot plant as cuttings. The length is generally 10-15 cm. Depending on the size of the leaves, keep 1/3 or 1/2 of the leaves.

3. Cuttings treatment: Before cuttings, in order to increase the rooting rate, you should soak the cuttings in 500ppm naphthaleneacetic acid solution for 2 to 3 seconds. You can also use indoleacetic acid, indolebutyric acid and rooting powder for treatment.

4. Start of cutting propagation : After completing the above preparations, you can officially start cutting propagation. Insert the treated cuttings into the cutting bed (a substrate evenly mixed with peat soil and river sand). The best spacing between rows and plants is 5×10 cm.

5. Management after planting: After planting, keep the soil moist and the relative humidity of the air at 75%-85%. It will take root and sprout after 30-50 days. After about 10 days, it can be moved to the pot and then maintained normally according to the cultivation method of cat's eye arrowroot.

Sowing propagation of cat's eye arrowroot

Cat's eye arrowroot has seeds, but the common propagation methods are division and cuttings. When the capsule grows and matures, its seeds can be harvested. When using seeds for planting, try to choose fresh and large seeds. If the seeds are shriveled, it will be difficult for them to germinate after planting.

Precautions for breeding cat's eye arrowroot

Cat's eye arrowroot generally rarely suffers from diseases and pests, but during planting, changes in the maintenance environment or improper management will cause pests such as red spider mites, scale insects and aphids, which need to be prevented in advance.
