1. Time to change pots

The potting soil of Cymbidium orchids should usually be replaced every 1-2 years, usually in spring or autumn. The climate in these two seasons is suitable, which is conducive to the recovery of plant growth.

2. Remove the pot

When repotting, you should first carefully remove the plant from the old pot to avoid damaging the roots. Then remove the old soil and trim off dead branches, leaves, old roots and rotten roots. Note that the roots need to be disinfected after pruning, such as soaking them in potassium permanganate solution.

3. Pot soil preparation

Choose a flower pot with good air permeability and prepare loose, well-drained soil. The soil preparation is usually similar to that of orchids, and the recommended ratio is bark: rice husks and peanut shells : humus: perlite foam particles = 5:2:2:1.

4. Planting in pots

Place a layer of pellets or tiles at the bottom of the pot to aid drainage. Then spread a layer of soil, upright the cymbidium plant and place it in the pot, and continue to fill the soil to 1-2 cm below the edge of the pot. Lightly compact the soil to firmly bond the plant to the soil.

5. Post-care

(1) Shade and slow down the growth of seedlings: Newly repotted Cymbidium orchids need some time to adapt to the new environment and should be placed in semi-shaded area, away from direct sunlight to prevent leaf burns.

(2) Moderate moisturizing: Keep the medium slightly moist, but avoid water accumulation. Spray to increase the surrounding humidity and promote root recovery.

(3) Fertilization to promote growth: After the plant resumes growth, low-concentration liquid fertilizer can be applied to promote the germination of new shoots and the formation of flower buds.

In general, repotting cymbidium is a task that requires both patience and skill. But basically following the above steps and supplementing with careful care can effectively help the cymbidium to be repotted smoothly and promote its healthy growth.
