What to do if succulents are sunburned?

There are generally two situations in which succulents get sunburned. One is that the weather is continuously hot and the succulents grown outdoors are not shaded, so they are easily sunburned and wilted. The other is that after spraying water, the remaining moisture on the leaves does not evaporate in time, and the leaves will be burned when the sun shines on them!

After being sunburned, it will not show any symptoms on the same day. If it is a mild sunburn, various spots or scars will appear on the center and tip of the succulent leaves after three to five days.

Solution

1. After sunburn, the succulents need to be moved to a place with scattered light for maintenance, or shaded, and wait for self-recovery. During this period, maintain normal maintenance and ventilation.

2. During daily maintenance, do not suddenly move succulents from a location with weak light to a location with strong light.

3. Reduce watering. It is best to water after dusk and avoid watering on sunny days. Because right after watering, the water evaporates, the soil in the pot heats up quickly, and the roots will be suffocated and rotted directly.

What to do with dead leaves of succulents?

When the leaves lack water or the weather is hot, they will gradually dry up and fall off. This is a normal metabolic phenomenon. If you find dead leaves, clean them up in time, otherwise they will pile up underground, where it will be damp and stuffy, and it will easily breed bacteria and be infected by pests. In severe cases, it will cause root rot!

Solution

1. Hold the succulents with your hands and carefully clean up the dead leaves. If the dead leaves have not fallen yet, you can wait a few days to clean them up.

2. After cleaning, lay a layer of small pebbles underneath to prevent sunburn or black rot caused by water when watering.

What should I do if my succulent plants grow too tall?

Other people’s succulents are short, fat and cute, but mine always looks like a dog? Huahua found that if there is not enough light and too much water, the succulents will quickly grow tall.

Solution

Those who have already become unarmed can only remain unarmed and cannot change back. However, you need to adjust the maintenance method. First, increase the light, and then reduce watering. You must pay attention to gradual progress. When there is enough light, the plant will not become emaciated even if you water it a lot.

For newly acquired succulents, remember a light formula before maintenance:

Weak light and long-term exposure will cause the stem nodes to grow too long;

Weak light and short-term illumination will result in thin leaves with large surface area;

The leaves are thickest when the light is strong and long-lasting;

Plants are shortest when exposed to strong light for short periods of time.

What should I do if succulents get moldy?

Compacted soil, poor ventilation, excessive watering, humidity and stuffiness...can all cause succulents to become moldy, mildew spots to form on the leaves, and mold and rot at the roots!

Solution

1. Remove the moldy leaves. If there are a lot of moldy leaves, pick off the better leaves, disinfect them, and then do leaf cuttings to reproduce them again.

2. When the roots are moldy, take out the entire plant, rinse it with clean water, cut off the moldy parts, disinfect it, and then change the soil for maintenance.

3. Control water appropriately in summer and make sure to ventilate the plant more often. You can place it on a windowsill or use a fan.

What to do if succulent plants have black rot?

Summer is the peak period for black rot in succulents. The stems and leaves become soft, and the roots turn black and rot. It is usually caused by fungal infection or airtight soil.

Solution

1. Beheading

Black rot usually starts from the rhizome. Cut off all the black rot parts, soak the remaining plants in 500-600 times diluted carbendazim for disinfection, dry them, and then change the soil for replanting.

2. Leaf cuttings

If the black rot of the succulent plant is very serious and it can no longer be beheaded, then pick a few healthy leaves and use them for cutting propagation.

3. Prevention is key

The key to preventing black rot of succulents is four words: shade, ventilation, water control, and stop fertilizing. If you do these things, your succulents can safely survive the summer.

That’s all for today Huahua.
