What is the main component of wood ash? Can it be used as fertilizer?

1. Main ingredients

Its main ingredient is potassium carbonate, which contains almost all the mineral elements found in plants. The potassium content in wood ash is relatively high, usually around 6%-12%, of which 90% is water-soluble and exists in the form of carbonate. The second is the phosphorus content, which is usually around 1.5%-3%. In addition to these, it also contains some other nutrients such as iron, copper, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, etc.

2. What is fertilizer?

Wood ash can be used as fertilizer. It is also a common type of farm fertilizer. After use, it can kill bacteria, prevent diseases and pests, etc. It is also an organic fertilizer, very suitable for acidic soil or clay, and can be used as a cover for seedlings. Because it contains more potassium, it is also a potash fertilizer.

It is an alkaline fertilizer and should not be used together with acidic fertilizers or farmyard manure. If you want to spray it on the leaves, you need to filter it before use, so as not to cause pollution to the leaves and flowers of the plants.

3. Usage

You can usually use it as foliar fertilizer, or you can spray the leaves with a lower concentration liquid. It is very suitable for plants that like potassium, such as sunflowers, potatoes, grapes, etc. When using it, do not mix it with phosphorus fertilizer, as this may result in low fertilizer efficiency.
