Saffron bulb planting method and time

Saffron bulb planting method and time

Saffron, also known as saffron, is a precious Chinese medicinal material , and its style part is mainly used. Saffron likes to grow in a cool environment. It only blooms but does not bear fruit. It reproduces asexually through bulbs. Here, the editor will introduce the planting method and time of saffron bulbs . Let’s take a look.

1. Planting time

Saffron is usually planted in the fall, around September to October, when the weather is cool and suitable for the growth of the bulbs. The northern regions may be slightly earlier, while the southern regions may be slightly later.

2. Choose bulbs

Choose bulbs that are bright red, shiny, firm and free of rot, and avoid buying old or damaged bulbs. High-quality bulbs can ensure the growth and flowering of the plants.

3. Prepare the soil

Saffron grows best in loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Before planting, the soil can be improved by adding appropriate amounts of decomposed organic fertilizer and sand to improve soil fertility and aeration.

4. Planting seeds

Sprinkle the selected bulbs evenly on the prepared soil and press them gently to make them in close contact with the soil. After sowing, water carefully with a sprayer or watering can to keep the soil moist, but not so wet that the bulbs will rot.

5. Light temperature

Saffron likes plenty of sunlight, but also avoids too strong sunlight. In hot summer, appropriate shade can be provided. The suitable temperature range for saffron growth is 15-25 degrees Celsius. Too cold or too hot an environment will affect its growth and flowering.

6. Management points

During the growth period of saffron, organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer can be applied in appropriate amounts to provide the nutrients needed by the plant. At the same time, loosen the soil and weed regularly to keep the soil aerated and tidy. If pests or diseases are found, take appropriate control measures in time.

7. Pest and disease control

Check the plants regularly to detect and deal with diseases and pests in a timely manner. A combination of biological and chemical control can be used.

8. Harvest and storage

Saffron petals are picked on the day of flowering or the next morning, preferably when the sunlight is not strong. Place the picked petals in a well-ventilated place to dry, and then store them in a dry, dark and sealed container to keep their aroma and nutrients stable.

The above is the planting method and time of saffron bulbs. Saffron has strong cold resistance, but not heat resistance, and will enter a dormant state in summer. Therefore, during the planting process, we must pay attention to controlling the temperature to avoid adverse effects of too high or too low temperatures on the plants.
