How to grow mint

How to grow mint

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Mint likes loose and breathable soil, and its requirements for soil are not high.

2. Light: Mint needs sufficient sunlight to grow, and there is no need to shade it even in summer. If there is insufficient light, it will grow too tall, the leaves will stop growing, and it will become very weak.

3. Water: Adequate water can make mint grow better, especially in the early stages of growth, when it requires more water. Water it thoroughly at normal times. In winter, when the temperature is lower, the amount of watering should be reduced appropriately.

4. Temperature: The most suitable growth temperature is 25-30℃. If the temperature is lower than 15℃, it will grow slowly. At a suitable growth temperature, as long as the water and fertilizer are reasonable, the higher the temperature, the faster it will grow.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Cutting propagation: The best time for cutting is May-June. Cut a mint stem into 10 cm cuttings, insert them into the seedbed and water them. Wait until they take root and sprout before transplanting them.

2. Rhizome propagation: It is usually carried out in late April or late August. Choose healthier plants as mother plants and then plant them. After harvesting the stems and leaves in early winter, the rhizomes are left in place as seed plants.

3. Common diseases

1. Black shank: This is a very common disease, which mostly occurs in the seedling stage. After the disease occurs, the base of the stem will turn black or rot. During the disease period, you can spray with thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim.

2. Mint rust: It usually occurs between May and July. Spray with oxycarboxin after the disease occurs.
