How to propagate lotus magnolia

sowing

Breeding time: mid to late February

Reproduction method: If you want to collect seeds yourself, you need to harvest the fruits in September, then obtain the seeds, and sow them in February of the following year. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the seedbed, and then cover them with a layer of fine soil. You can wrap them with transparent plastic, which can keep warm and moist. Small sprouts will emerge after mid-April. During this period, you must keep the environment humid. When the seedlings grow to 30 cm to 40 cm in height, you can apply fertilizer and transplant them in October.

Layering

Breeding time: mid-April to mid-May

Reproduction method: The layering method is more complicated, but it can solve some other problems that limit reproduction. Select the sturdy, thick and upward-growing side branches on 2- to 3-year-old plants. After cutting them off, peel off the outer skin at the bottom first, about 3 cm long; then insert them into the soil, and then wrap the soil together with plastic film into a ball. New roots will grow in about June, but the soil inside the package must be kept moist during this period.

grafting

Breeding time: September or spring

Reproduction method: Cut off the scion, about 4 cm to 5 cm long. If it has leaves, remove them all, and then connect it to the purple magnolia. The interface should be oblique, and then wrap the joint with a handle. After the plant takes root, don't rush to remove the wrapping. Wait a few days.
