What to do if Monstera root rots

What to do if Monstera root rots

Causes of Monstera root rot

Overwatering

When growing Monstera, you need to provide it with a warm and humid growing environment. Because Monstera is afraid of drought, it needs sufficient watering when growing it. However, if it is watered too much, water will accumulate in the pot and the roots will rot.

Overfertilization

Monstera is a fertilizer-loving plant, so flower lovers will fertilize it in large quantities when growing it. However, it should be noted that the amount of fertilizer applied to Monstera must be appropriate. If too much fertilizer is applied, it will cause root burn and then rot.

What to do if Monstera root rots

When growing Monstera, it is necessary to do a good job of water and fertilizer management. While ensuring sufficient nutrients for growth, avoid excessive water and fertilizer. This can play a certain role in preventing root rot.

If the roots of the Monstera deliciosa are rotten, do not apply fertilizer first. Then dig the Monstera deliciosa out of the pot, cut off the rotten roots, trim the leaves, and place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Wait until the wound is dry and healed before planting it.

Monstera hydroponics root rot

In addition to the root rot of Monstera grown in soil, Monstera will also rot when grown in hydroponics. The root rot at this time is mostly because the roots of Monstera were infected with bacteria during hydroponics. When the bacteria multiply in large numbers, they will corrode the roots and cause root rot.

If the hydroponic Monstera has root rot, the first thing to do is to trim off the rotten roots to prevent further infection. The pruned roots should be placed in potassium permanganate solution for disinfection, then taken out and dried. Clean the hydroponic container, replace all the water, and clean off the moss on the inner wall. Add water again, then put the treated Monstera back, and wait for it to grow again before you can take care of it normally.
