How to plant myrtle seeds

How to plant myrtle seeds

1. Seed treatment

Seeds are the foundation of growing flowers. It is impossible to grow good flowers without a good seed, or with a defective or deformed seed.

The flowering period of myrtle is from April to May, and the fruits are formed as the flowers bloom. When the fruit turns purple-black, it is ripe.

The ripe fruits are picked, the seeds are taken out, and then another round of screening is carried out to remove the damaged or deformed seeds.

If you don’t have seeds, you can buy them through other channels.

The seeds you get need to undergo certain processing to facilitate their germination. Specifically, soak the seeds in clean water at about 40℃ and wait until they swell after absorbing water.

2. Choice of Matrix

Choosing a suitable substrate for myrtle can not only help it germinate better, but also help it grow and develop better.

It is an acid indicator plant, so the first thing to consider when choosing a substrate for it is the pH value of the substrate. Because it can only grow on acidic substrates, it is best to choose a substrate with a pH of around 5.0.

If there is no suitable substrate, the pH of the substrate can be lowered through methods such as fertilizers.

Secondly, choosing a fertilizer with relatively high fertility for it can better provide the nutrients it needs for growth and development, helping it grow better and faster.

3. Planting Methods

The first thing to do when growing myrtle at home is to choose a good flowerpot for it. Flower pots are required to have bottom holes for drainage and ventilation.

Stir-fry the prepared substrate in a hot pan to sterilize it, then dry it and put it into the flower pot. You don't need to fill it too much, just 90% of the volume of the flower pot. At this time, be sure to set aside a portion of the matrix for later use.

Use the immersion method to wet the substrate of the flower pot.

Place the processed seeds on the soil surface, being careful to handle them with care so as not to damage the seeds.

Then cover the seeds with a layer of reserved substrate and immerse the seeds in the substrate.

Finally, place it in a room with low light and wait for it to germinate.
