How to plant Jacaranda seeds

How to plant Jacaranda seeds

1. Seed Collection

The fruit ripening period of Jacaranda is around November, when it will be full of fruits.

We need to pick it from the tree, expose it to the sun to evaporate the moisture in the seeds, and then store it in a low temperature and dry place.

Wait until March of the following year when spring returns to the earth before planting. The planting temperature should be kept above 20℃ as much as possible, which will help increase the possibility of seed germination.

2. Location Selection

The environments suitable for the growth of different plants are not the same. If you spend a little more time choosing a planting location for it, it is likely to make the entire planting work more efficient.

Because it comes from the tropics, it likes moisture and light.

It prefers a warm growing environment, so it is best to choose a place where the temperature is above 15℃ all year round for planting. Especially in winter, you should pay attention to the temperature of its growing environment not being too low, otherwise it will cause it to stop growing.

It likes light and needs sunlight for energy to grow, so it is best to choose a place that can guarantee at least half sunlight for planting. But be careful not to expose it to sunlight for a long time in summer, otherwise its growth will be inhibited.

3. Choice of Matrix

Choosing a suitable substrate for Jacaranda can help it germinate and grow better.

Although Jacaranda can produce a large number of brightly colored flowers, it does not require very advanced media. Generally, slightly acidic media can meet its growth needs well.

In addition, it should be noted that the medium should not be easily waterlogged, otherwise it may affect the breathing of the seeds and be detrimental to their germination.

4. Planting Methods

Use a flowerpot to hold the prepared medium, prepare the soil surface and then soak it in water. Take out the flowerpot after the soil surface changes color.

Sow the seeds on the soil surface. It is best to soak the seeds in water at about 30°C in advance to increase the germination rate.

Finally, cover the seeds with a layer of medium. Because its seeds are very small, the covering medium cannot be too thick. With careful care, seedlings will emerge in about 10 to 15 days.

After the seedlings grow, they can be transplanted. When it grows to about 50cm, you can plant it in the selected planting location.
