What to do if camellia leaves have black spots

Leaf spot

Black spots appear on camellia leaves, which may be caused by leaf spot disease, a common camellia disease. In the initial stage of the disease, dark brown spots will appear on the leaves. As time goes by, these spots will slowly expand, causing large gray-brown patches to appear on the leaves, and some spots will appear grayish white. Many small black spots will appear on the dark brown patches, eventually causing the leaves to wither and fall off.

The reason why camellia gets leaf spot disease is mostly because the air is too humid and hot, lacks ventilation, or is watered too much. The pathogen spores infect the plants through various channels and spread widely, causing the camellia to suffer from leaf spot damage.

Treatment method: If you get this disease, remember not to get water on the leaves, otherwise it will accelerate the worsening of the disease. Before wintering, remove and burn all infected leaves, then spray with lime sulfur for treatment. Be careful to protect the leaves from sunburn and frost. In addition, you can regularly spray the medicine for prevention and nutrient supplementation to reduce the chance of camellia getting sick.

Sooty disease

If camellia is infected with sooty mold, black spots will appear on the surface of the leaves. These spots are gray-brown at first, and gradually turn black and expand in size.

The disease is generally caused by fungal infection caused by aphids and scale insects in a hot, humid and poorly ventilated environment. The higher the humidity and heat of the environment, the faster the lesions spread. The black spots that appear after infection will destroy photosynthesis, affect the healthy growth of the plants, and cause great harm to the plants.

Treatment method: First of all, prevention should be carried out from the source. Pay attention to the air circulation and sufficient light in the plant's growth environment. After the disease occurs, you can wipe the diseased leaves with clean water to remove the mildew spots from the leaf surface. However, the cause of the disease is pests, so to cure it completely, we need to start from the source and kill all the aphids and scale insects that cause the disease. We should also spray pesticides regularly to prevent it and maintain the healthy growth of camellia.
