How to water pepper tree

How to water pepper tree

1. Control of watering amount

Pepperwood requires very little water, and it will rot easily if it gets too much water. Therefore, the amount of watering should be controlled according to the soil. Wait until the soil is slightly dry before starting watering, and water thoroughly at one time. Usually, the soil in the pot should be kept dry. The most suitable soil is one with good air permeability, and softer soil is easier to take root. Each time, you should wait until the soil is slightly dry and then water it thoroughly. It is not enough to just moisten the soil on top. You should water until the water flows out from the bottom of the pot.

2. Control of watering frequency

Pepper tree prefers soil with humidity between 50% and 70%, so watering should not be too frequent. Watering once every 3 to 5 days is most appropriate. Spring, summer and autumn are the seasons when pepper trees grow fastest, so they require more water. Therefore, you need to water it once every 2-3 days, and water it sufficiently each time, but there should be no stagnant water in the pot. In winter, they may go dormant, and the frequency of watering should no longer be the same as before. Try to reduce the frequency or even stop watering. Just make sure the soil in the pot doesn't get too dry.

3. How to identify water shortage

Pepperwood likes warm temperatures or even high temperatures. The most suitable temperature for its growth is between 20 and 30 degrees. Except for winter, it is the rapid growth period of pepper tree, so the most suitable soil should be a little moist to the touch. When the soil is somewhat dry, it is necessary to water it and water it thoroughly at one time. If there is a tray at the bottom of the pot, be sure to pour out the water in the tray 10 minutes after watering to avoid root rot. If the pepper tree's leaves become abnormally fragile at the joints, a large number of leaves fall off, or the leaves turn yellow, it means that the frequency of watering is too high and there is too much water for it to absorb. It is best to give it a new pot and new soil to allow new buds to sprout, or to prune it well and shorten the stems so that it can grow again.
