If you grow Sansevieria like this, its roots won’t rot for 20 years and it can still bloom and bear fruit!
Some flower lovers may have guessed it. It is the fruit of the snake plant. Everyone knows that Sansevieria is a foliage plant, but it is very impressive when it comes to flowering and fruiting. It has small white flowers with slender and slightly curled petals, which is very fresh and unique.
The fruit is bright in color and looks cute in its small size. So how should we care for the snake plant so that it can also bloom and bear fruit like this?

How to water

Sansevieria is relatively drought-resistant and does not require much water. Do not water it too much, otherwise the leaves will turn white and the markings will fade. Normally, water the soil when it is dry and then water it when it is wet. You can insert a chopstick into the soil in the pot to check, and then water it after the soil is completely dry within 2-3 cm.

How to perform lighting

If you want the snake plant to bloom and bear fruit, sufficient light is essential. Except for the summer when the temperature is high and the sun is directly shining, you should pay attention to shading. In other seasons, you can place the snake plant on the south balcony or south windowsill to let it fully bathe in the sun. This way, the snake plant can grow better and bear fruit.

How to fertilize

During the growth period of Sansevieria, you can apply fertilizer 1-2 times a month. Evenly bury 3 holes of cooked soybeans in the soil around the pot, with 3-5 beans in each hole. Be sure not to let them come into contact with the root system, otherwise the roots will easily burn. You can also apply an appropriate amount of potassium fertilizer to promote bud formation and flowering.

What to do if the roots rot

Sometimes if you water too much and the water accumulates for a long time, the roots will easily rot. ① Remove the snake plant from the pot, wash the roots with clean water, and trim off the rotten parts with sterilized scissors. Remember to be thorough, otherwise the rotten parts will be infected again. ② Soak the cut of the snake plant in carbendazim or potassium permanganate solution for about 30 minutes to disinfect it. ④ Take out the snake plant, put it in a cool and ventilated place to dry, and then place it in clean water to induce roots. If you find it troublesome, you can choose not to induce roots, but the effect will be better after inducing roots, and it will be easier to grow new fibrous roots. ⑤ Prepare new soil. You can use old flowerpots, but they must be washed and disinfected, and then put the flowers back in the pots.

What to do if you are heartbroken

Sansevieria may also experience heart rot, mainly because water is poured on the leaves, slides down to the heart of the leaves, and is not cleaned up in time. The accumulation of water for a long time will cause the heart of the leaves to rot. When encountering this situation, we can only cut off the damaged leaves and re-graft them. ① Select the healthy part of the cut leaves and cut them into small sections of about 10 cm. ② After soaking the leaves in carbendazim for disinfection, apply some rooting powder on the wound. ③ Prepare loose and breathable soil. You can choose a mixture of peat soil and vermiculite. ④ Insert the leaves into the soil, water them thoroughly, and place them in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance. It will take about 20 days for the snake plant to take root.

What to do with rotten leaves

Sometimes, the leaves of the snake plant will get sick, for example, dry spots will appear on the leaves, which will then slowly rot and spread around, getting bigger and bigger. If left untreated, the entire leaf will rot and may even spread to other leaves. What should we do in the face of this situation? ① Starting from the rotten place, cut off the entire part with the rotten patch. Be careful to remove it completely, otherwise the rotten part will continue to spread. ② Then apply some carbendazim on the wound of the snake plant. ③ If there are intact areas of the cut part that have not rotted, you can also cut it off and re-cut it into the pot (refer to the method above) to let it grow a new snake plant, so that the feeling of heartache will be alleviated a little~

What to do if the leaves turn yellow and dry

① Sun exposure Sometimes we put the snake plant outside in the sun, but the sun is too strong and the leaves dry up because of the excessive exposure... In this case, we can only move the snake plant to a cool and ventilated place, cut off the yellow leaves, and then wait for it to grow new leaves again. ② Too little watering Although Tiger Piranha is drought-resistant, if it is not watered for a long time, the Tiger Piranha will consume the water stored in its leaves. If it consumes too much, the leaves will become soft and turn yellow. In this case, we can only cut off the dry leaf tips and then water them thoroughly. ③ Too much watering. If the leaves of the snake plant are hard but the edges are still yellow, it basically means that you have watered too much. Then loosen the soil quickly and place it in a well-ventilated place to speed up the evaporation of water. If you delay it for a few days, there will be a risk of root rot.
Once you learn these methods, it will no longer be a dream for your snake plant to bloom and bear fruit. But there is another condition for it to bear fruit, which is pollination by moths. Of course, flower lovers can also help him pollinate by themselves~
