Your pennywort is small and crooked, but others' grow into big lotus leaves. How do they do that?

Your pennywort is small and crooked, but others' grow into big lotus leaves. How do they do that?

The leaves are as big as lotus leaves

If you want the leaves to grow this big, the most important thing is to get more sunlight.

No matter how much nutrients the indoor pennywort has, it cannot carry out photosynthesis and conversion. The pennywort grown outdoors receives ample sunlight, absorbs nutrients quickly, and naturally grows much larger leaves.

Therefore, if you have a yard at home, it is best to move the pennywort outdoors. Flower lovers who live in high-rise buildings should place it on the balcony instead of indoors.

We can learn from the great master's approach. He planted the pennywort in the semi-shaded backyard, which is equivalent to the east balcony of the building. The time when it can be exposed to direct sunlight is only from about 6:00 to 11:30 in the morning. The sunlight is mild, which is very conducive to the growth of pennywort.

The master also often collects fish water, rainwater, etc. to water the pennywort, which is why the leaves of the pennywort grow so large.

Soil cultivation grows well

Some people like hydroponics, but the pennywort grows crookedly and its leaves turn yellow because there is no nutrition in the water.

In fact, soil cultivation is the best way to grow pennywort. If you don't dare to switch to soil cultivation all at once, you can try half water and half soil.

step:

1. Find a pot without drainage holes at the bottom, such as a plastic pot like the one shown below. Put about 2 cm of sandy soil or garden soil at the bottom of the pot. Don’t use sticky loess. Otherwise, if you forget to water it, it will dry into lumps of soil and suffocate the pennywort.

2. Cut off all the leaves of the pennywort, place the roots on the garden soil, and then cover them with a layer of sand.

3. Add water, the water level should be 2 cm away from the edge of the basin. Take it out to bask in the sun and don't be afraid of moss growing, because the pennywort cannot grow well without the sun.

After about a week, the pennywort grew very lush and its branches and stems were very straight. After that, you can slowly add soil until it is completely converted into soil cultivation.

I grow so slowly that I need to shave my head

Some people's pennywort grows very slowly, like the one in the picture below, because the leaves on the top are very small and dense, so the newly grown leaves below are suffocated.

1. Leave 2cm above the edge of the pot, then cut off all branches and leaves.

2. Pull the roots out of the pot and you will find that the roots have grown very densely. The original nutrients in the soil are basically exhausted. Cut off the old roots, trying not to touch the tender white new roots. You can divide them into multiple pots later.

3. Divide the seeds into three pots and plant them in the soil. Water them once in the morning and once in the evening every day. Many new leaves soon appeared.

4. Take a grain of compound fertilizer every 5 days, dilute it and water it once. Within a month, the pot was full of flowers again.

What to do after flowering

After the pennywort blooms, its nutrients are almost consumed. The leaves will turn yellow and curl at the edges, affecting their appearance. Therefore, the flower arrows must be dealt with quickly.

1. Find the flower arrow and cut it off at the root.

2. After pruning, ensure sufficient water and light. Within 2 weeks, it will grow out of the pot again and look better than before.

What to do if leaves turn yellow

1. If only individual leaves turn yellow, it may be normal metabolism. Just cut off the yellow leaves.

2. If all the leaves turn yellow, you need to pay attention to it. For hydroponics, you can change the water and dilute some liquid fertilizer and pour it in. In other cases, you can repot the plant to see if the roots are too developed and cut off the old roots and leaves.
