How to grow hydrangea

Reproduction

Hydrangea is generally propagated by layering, division and cuttings. The division method is generally more suitable to be carried out in early spring before the plant sprouts, and the rooted branches are separated from the mother tree for reproduction. For layering, you can use the high-altitude layering method in the spring. It will generally take root in June and July, and can be divided and transplanted in the same year. Before the Chutianmu Hydrangea sprouts, last year's branches should be buried in the soil. When the branches grow about four or five nodes, you can apply a small amount of fertilizer and wait until February to March of the following year before transplanting. Cuttings are usually done by cutting young branches during the rainy season.

soil

Hydrangeas prefer moist, fertile soil with good drainage.

The most suitable growth temperature for hydrangea is generally between 18 and 28 degrees. If the temperature in winter is below 5 degrees, the flowers need to be moved indoors to spend the winter. Usually a temperature around 20 degrees can help flowering and growth.

Water and fertilizer

Hydrangea prefers an environment with sufficient water and fertilizer. It likes a humid environment, but be careful not to water it too much. Just spray water on the leaves in summer. When the hydrangea is in its vigorous growth period, it needs timely top dressing. Use decomposed thin cake fertilizer water about once every half a month to ensure normal growth of the plant.

illumination

Hydrangea requires appropriate light, so in winter, it is recommended to place the plant on the balcony to ensure sufficient light exposure. In summer, the light is too strong and needs to be moved indoors.
