How to plant waterweed seeds

Waterleaf sowing season

Because water chrysanthemum is not very cold-resistant and avoids heat, it is often sown in mid-to-late September.

Preparation for sowing water lilies

Matrix disinfection

Before sowing seeds, the sowing substrate must be disinfected. The best way is to stir-fry the substrate potting soil in a hot pan to kill the pests in the soil in advance.

Germination

Soak the collected seeds in warm water of appropriate temperature for three to ten hours, until the seeds absorb water and swell. Whether to do this work depends on the specific growth conditions of the seeds.

Specific steps for sowing water lily

The steps for sowing water lily seeds should be determined according to the condition of the seeds. For some larger seeds that can be picked up by hand or other tools, you only need to place the seeds directly in the substrate and sow them at a spacing of 3×3. After sowing, cover the seeds with soil to an appropriate thickness. After sowing, you can use a sprayer or flower shower to wet the substrate soil, and then water it when it is dry, controlling the strength; for those seeds that cannot be picked up by hands or tools, you can use a toothpick moistened with water to stick the seeds one by one to the substrate, then cover them with soil about one centimeter, and then add water to the flowerpot until the water is about half deep, allowing the water to slowly soak into the potting soil substrate. This method is called pot immersion.

Precautions for sowing water lilies

If you encounter low temperatures and cold waves after sowing, you must wrap them with plastic film to keep them warm and moist.
