Orchids--How to grow fleshy roots

Orchids--How to grow fleshy roots

How to introduce roots?

Many flower lovers will encounter this situation: the leaves of the orchids they raise are dull and lifeless, but not dead. This is actually caused by an underdeveloped root system. With fewer roots, less nutrients are absorbed, so the leaves naturally lack vitality!

1. Choose a suitable rooting medium. Sphagnum moss or sawdust are very suitable.

3. Cut off all the dead roots, empty roots, old roots, dead roots and rotten roots in the root system, as they are useless.

4. Wet the sphagnum moss or sawdust until it is damp but not watery when you squeeze it with your hands.

5. Wrap the orchid's roots with sphagnum moss or sawdust and place it in the flowerpot.

6. Keep the medium moist and place it in a warm place indoors, away from direct sunlight. In about half a month to one month, new white and tender roots will grow out.

7. If you don’t want to go through so much trouble, you can dig out the soil where the orchid grows new buds, bury it with sphagnum moss, and keep the sphagnum moss moist. In the end, it can also promote the rooting of the orchid. After enough new roots are grown, you can take out the sphagnum moss and cover it with new soil.

How to nourish roots?

1. Choose the right medium

Orchids can only grow in loose and breathable soil. The recommended soil is 30% wood shavings (drill bit ends) + 70% hard planting material. The so-called hard planting material is red brick particles, coal slag and other planting materials with a relatively hard texture. The roots grown in the planting material are moderately soft and hard.

2. The water must be clean.

The water quality for watering orchids must be good. Polluted water cannot be used. In fact, the best is flowing stream water and river water, but it is difficult to find in the city. Tap water can be used, but it must be placed in a container and left to stand for 2 to 3 days.

3. The orchid pot must have holes

It is best to use a deep cylindrical pot to grow orchids. You can choose a purple clay pot or a clay pot. It is best not to use a porcelain pot. But no matter what flower pot you choose, there must be appropriate holes in the bottom, and it is best if there are holes on the wall of the pot.

Suitable plants

Plants that can be rooted in this way include Clivia, Phalaenopsis, Chlorophytum, Peony, Hydrangea, Peony, Geranium, Dianthus, Dahlia, Oxalis, Ranunculus, etc.
