Cultivation technology of yellow catfish

Yellow catfish, scientifically known as Pelteobagrus fulvidraco , is deeply loved by diners for its tender meat and delicious taste. It has become one of the most popular species in the aquaculture industry in recent years. So what are the key points in the cultivation technology of yellow catfish? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Pond construction

Choose a place with good water quality and sufficient water source to build a pond. The pond area and water depth should be moderate, and the silt on the bottom should not be too thick. A sandy bottom is preferred. The pond must be easily accessible for irrigation and drainage, have sufficient water, and be cleaned and disinfected to remove wild fish and kill pathogens.

2. Seedling cultivation

Under suitable water temperature and sufficient bait conditions, the seedlings are initially cultivated until they reach the stocking specifications. During seedling cultivation, water quality should be monitored regularly to keep the water fresh and prevent the occurrence of diseases.

3. Release of fish fry

Choose healthy yellow croaker fry. The release time is generally from late February to early March, when the temperature is suitable and conducive to the growth of the fry. The stocking density is adjusted according to the pond size and breeding equipment. It is generally recommended to release about 1,000 fish per acre.

4. Feeding

Choose high-quality feed for feeding, determine the feeding amount according to the fish's growth stage and feeding conditions, and achieve "positioned, regular, quantitative, and quality" feeding. Reference formula: fish meal 23%, silkworm pupa meal 8%, meat and bone meal 8%, blood meal 8%, yeast powder 6%, soybean powder 17%, standard flour 23%, vegetable oil 3%, vitamin mixture 1%, inorganic salt mixture 1.5%, adhesive 1.5%.

5. Water quality control

Generally, the water is changed every 10-15 days, and the transparency of the pool water is controlled at 30-40 cm. At the same time, 30ppm of quicklime and microbial preparations are used alternately every half a month to adjust the pH value and reduce the content of toxic and harmful substances such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, methane, and hydrogen sulfide in the water.

6. Daily management

We patrol the pond every day, focusing on observing the water color, fish feeding and activity, and take measures such as water injection, use of microbial agents, fertilization and oxygenation to ensure clean water quality. In addition, pond pest control and sterilization work should be carried out regularly to prevent and control the occurrence of fish diseases.

In general, with the growing market demand for yellow croaker, its breeding scale is also expanding rapidly, so the breeding experience is already very mature. Farmers only need to pay attention to the details, and it is basically not difficult to raise yellow catfish well.
