Watering methods for iris in four seasons

Watering methods for iris in four seasons

How to water the iris in spring and autumn

Potted irises are usually taken out of the house in April, when they have already entered the growing season. Spring and autumn are the peak growth periods for irises. During this period, sufficient water and fertilizer need to be ensured. If fertilizing, apply a small amount of compound fertilizer once every half a month.

When watering, you first need to ensure that the soil in the pot is moist. In principle, you should water it when it is dry and water it thoroughly when it is completely dry. Be careful not to allow water to accumulate. In spring, watering can be done once every 3 days, while in autumn the amount of watering should be properly controlled, so that the branches can grow stronger.

Summer watering method of iris

Due to the unique climatic characteristics of summer, different performances will occur when watering. First of all, evaporation is fast during the high temperatures in summer, so watering is needed every day. In order to maintain a high air humidity, water should be sprayed on the plants and the ground frequently. However, do not water when it rains a lot in summer. If you accidentally get caught in the rain, you need to drain the water in time to prevent root rot. When watering, if conditions permit, choose to use rainwater or snow water, or water with some ferrous sulfate solution to prevent the soil from becoming alkaline, which is not conducive to growth. You can also frequently water the iris with alum fertilizer water to keep the leaves dark green.

How to water the iris in winter

In winter, due to the low temperature, the growth of the iris is very slow. At this time, you should control the amount of watering to avoid water accumulation due to water not being absorbed by the plant.
