How to reproduce small lilies

How to reproduce small lilies

Seed propagation

The propagation of lilies is mostly done by sowing.

When propagating by sowing, flower seeds are needed. However, during natural pollination, the seeds of the lily are prone to mutation, so it is best to use artificially pollinated seeds for sowing propagation.

In the northern region, sowing is carried out in early May. It can be done by spot sowing or row sowing. When the seedlings grow out and have 5-7 leaves, they can be transplanted. Sow the seeds of the lily, cover them lightly with soil, and ensure the temperature is between 15℃ and 20℃. They will germinate after a week. When the seedlings of the lily of the valley grow 5 leaves, they can be transplanted and planted. In order to avoid damaging the root system, they can be transplanted with soil. After the lily of the valley has grown, it only needs proper care.

Bulb propagation

The underground part of the lily of the valley has bulbs or corms. These underground corms grow slowly and will produce new small balls. These small balls can be divided for bulb reproduction.

The operation of bulb division propagation is relatively simple. Cut the small bulbs and bury them in the soil. Be careful not to bury the small bulbs too deep when planting. When covering the soil, try not to make the soil thickness exceed twice the thickness of the bulb.

The management of the bulb division and propagation of the lily of the valley is very simple. After the seedlings grow, just manage them normally.

Propagation by division

The division propagation of lily of the valley can be carried out in early spring.

When propagating the lily of the valley by division, take the mother plant out of the pot, remove excess soil, and use a knife to separate the lily of the valley from the roots into several plants. Each plant should have roots and the leaves should be trimmed.

Disinfect the small plants of lily of the valley and put them in pots after they are dried. After potting, water thoroughly once and place the lily in a shaded place for maintenance. Water it sparingly in the next month. You can spray water on the leaves every day, but do not fertilize.
